Batts Informative at Annual Meeting

Lana R. Batts - Keynote Speaker
Managing Partner
Transport Capital Partners, LLC

     Lana Batts has over three decades of experience in the trucking industry. She is currently managing partner of Transport Capital Partners, LLC, a mergers and acquisition firm that specializes in the trucking industry.  She is also the principal in Batts & Associates, LLC, a transportation-consulting firm that specializes in research and business development for the trucking industry.

She was the President of the Truckload Carriers Association (1994-2000). While at the Truckload Carriers Association, she led the successful turn around of the Professional Truck Driver Institute and established the Truckload Academy. She was the Senior Vice President for the Government Affairs for the American Trucking Associations. She also was the President and CEO of the American Financial Services Association.

Batts is currently on the Board of Directors of Brown Trucking Co.and the Transportation Costing Group.  She has served on the Boards of Mullen Transportation a publicly traded Canadian corporation and PeopleNet Communications. She served as president of the Transportation Research Forum. In 1994 she was the proud recipient of the American Trucking Associations’ highest award – the S. Earl Dove Award. In 1997, she was named Woman of the year by the Women’s Transportation Seminar. In 2006, she received the Lee Crittenden award from the Professional Truck Driver Institute for her contributions to the organization’s goals.

She grew up in a trucking family in Billings, Montana, where her father owned a livestock trucking company. She graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Political Science and History and holds an MA (with honors) from the University of Miami (FL) in Politics and Public Affairs. She has done doctoral work at the University of Maryland in transportation.

Brenda Neville - Industry Speaker
President
Iowa Motor Truck Association

     Brenda Neville has been involved in association management for 23 years and has served the Iowa Motor Truck Association (IMTA) her entire career. Brenda is the President & CEO of the IMTA, an organization that was founded in 1942.

     As the advocate and voice for the trucking industry, IMTA represents over 750 member companies and is very proud to represent Iowa’s third largest employer. As President of the association, Brenda oversees the operation and is actively involved with public policy development and IMTA’s ongoing state and national government relations program.

     Brenda received her undergraduate degree in Business from the University of Northern Iowa and continues to do graduate work through the University of Iowa. Brenda holds a certification in association management is a published author and is active in numerous business and civic organizations. Brenda and her husband Joe have two teenage sons, reside in rural Polk County and are lifelong residents of Iowa.

Bruce W. Jones
CPA, ABV & President
KSM Transport Advisors, LLC

KSM Transport Advisors (KSMTA), a Katz, Sapper & Miller Company, provides financial advisory services to middle-market trucking companies. Prior to joining KSMTA, Bruce Jones served as president of a transportation merger and acquisition consulting firm. Associated with the transportation industry since 1976, Bruce has served as CEO of two publicly-traded truckload carriers, CFO of J. B. Hunt Transport Services, one of the nation’s largest publicly traded truckload carriers, and Corporate Controller and Treasurer of Schneider National, the nation’s largest privately-owned truckload carrier.

Bruce has engineered a variety of capital transactions during his career including an initial public offering, executive leverage buy-outs, private equity placements, and various senior debt financings. He has been providing trucking acquisitions and divestitures advisory services since 1998 and has spent considerable time providing financial management consulting to privately-owned truckload carriers.

Bruce has served on numerous director boards, spoken at industry meetings and written articles on the topics of finance, business valuations, profit improvement and M&A transactions. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society and has completed the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ business valuation certification program.

Jason Miller
CPA & Engagement Manager

     Jason joined Katz, Sapper and Miller in 2005 and is a member of the Audit and Assurance Services Group. He focuses on the day-to-day delivery of our core audit services including financial statement audits, reviews and consulting. He also advises clients on a wide variety of accounting, reporting, compliance and internal control matters.

Jason has worked in public accounting since 2002 and has expertise in the transportation industry and is on the Steering Committee of the firm’s Transportation Services Practice Group.

 

Timothy W. Almack

KSM Transport Advisors

     Tim Almack, a partner with Katz, Sapper & Miller’s Assurance Services Department, has been with the firm since 1983 and in public accounting since 1976. As the partner-in-charge of the Transportation Services Group, Tim audits and reviews financial statements and advises numerous trucking clients in accounting, reporting, internal control, mergers and acquisitions, analysis of cash flow, lease vs. buy, equipment utilization, performance measurements, cost reduction strategies and other operational matters.

     Tim frequently speaks at trucking seminars and has written articles related to improving profitability of trucking companies. He is the cofounder of the Trucking Owners’ Roundtable that is co-sponsored by Katz, Sapper & Miller and the law firm of Scopelitis, Garvin, Light and Hanson. Tim is also the partner-in-charge of Katz, Sapper & Miller’s Client Services Committee.
